I've been to this salon twice. The first time I went, I had dark roots with bright blonde hair growing out. I wanted the blonde to blend in with my natural hair color. Deborah did a phenomenal job! It looked so natural, I was absolutely blown away. I'd say it was the dye job I've ever had in my life. Her old assistant, Ariel gave me a perfect blowout that made my newly colored hair shine. I felt beautiful and glamourous when I walked out of the salon. I'd easily rate my first experience five stars. I was pleased that I found a gem right in my own neighborhood.

However, My second experience wasn't good at all. I'm actually scrambling to find another hairdresser to fix my bad haircut right now. I partially blame myself for not boldly vocalizing my dissatisfaction, for choosing a style that didn't work for me, and for being a "squeeze in" appointment.

I wanted an inverted bob that was slightly asymmetrical. Basically, I wanted to move away from the frumpy mom ponytail look into a chic bob with a bit of edge to it. I wanted something that I could air dry to let my natural wave come out, or straighten for a polished look on a special occasion. Deborah told me that the look I chose was too "sassoon" for her, but her assistant could do it for me. Her assistant quickly cut my hair (it took less than 10 minutes), dried it it straight, and showed me with a mirror. I told her it wasn't what I had in mind and tried to explain I wanted it angled and bulk taken off of it. She trimmed a tiny bit off the sides and looked at me expectantly. I gave up at that point, paid $50+tip, and walked out with a dejected expression on my face. I made a bad decision for the style that I chose. I was unsure about layering, which would have improved the cut, I think. However, any good stylist should be able to look at a cut and know how to tweak it to your hair type, or if they think it won't work, to help guide you to what will.

Basically, I got the dreaded mushroom cut that all women with curly/wavy hair dread. My natural wavy curls are weighed down and my hair poofs out in a triangle shape. I have fine hair that is really wavy/slightly curly that poofs out and frizzes easily. When I look in the mirror, I see Peppermint Patty from the Peanuts Gang staring back at me. The cut isn't the worst I've ever had (bad baby bangs are worse, I think!), but it looks like I spent 10 minutes in Supercuts. It's a very basic bob that's slightly long in the front. It weighs my face down big time and hangs limply. It doesn't look like a $50 haircut! I've tried straightening it and it doesn't look much better. Frankly, I'd like a cut I don't have to spend an hour styling just to look decent. I have a toddler constantly screaming my name and getting into everything! Primping for hours is low on my priority list. I've traded in my boring ponytail for an average, droopy bob.

So here I am scouting out another salon to fix my cut on a Monday, Ugh. In the end, I'll be dropping over $100 for a haircut because I have to pay another experienced stylist to fix it.

I ended up going to MCN and paying less ($45 with a level 1 hair stylist) for a better haircut.

So what I gather from my experience, is basically to go to Dye for Daquila for a gorgeous, natural balayage dye job and a basic, classic cut for your straight hair. They honestly do the best dye job in Pittsburgh. Do not go if you have wavy/curly hair or want to drastically change your look. Also make your appointment well in advance, so you're not a rush job. I uploaded a photo for you to be the judge of my expensive haircut. Does this look flattering?
